Opportunities: Become a Volunteer
God calls Christians through discipleship to be in ministry in our communities and our world. The VISION of the Mt. Sterling Community Center is to become an ecumenical service grounded in Christian principals proclaiming the Good News of God’s grace, which will reflect the needs of the total community. The community center has opportunities available for volunteers to give of their time, talents and energy, to help
fulfill the above vision statement. These opportunities may include:
- Receptionists— answer the phone, take messages; greet visitors and program participants; answer
questions and refer inquiries to appropriate persons; make coffee, prepare snacks for children; provide
supervision during children’s activities; visit and conduct tours with those who stop by the center. - Food Pantry— help unload and stock food items from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank on the fist Wednesday of
each month; work in the pantry on Tuesdays from 4:00-7:00 P.M. or Thursdays from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00
P.M. to assist people as they make food choices; help to restock shelves as needed, shop for food and
other necessary items. - Clothing Pantry— help sort, launder and display clothing as it is donated on a weekly basis as needed.
- Tutoring for children year round— help children with their homework, reading, math, spelling and writing
skills; work with children using computer software. - Summer Day Camps—help with crafts/art, games, lunches/snacks, registration and music. You may
also volunteer to serve as a leader for a Day Camp, which may be offered several times a year. - Open Gym for children and adults—assist adults and parents/guardians with required forms; register
participants when they enter and leave center; oversee activities in the gym and youth room. The center
needs at least one responsible adult, preferably two, to serve in this capacity for companionship and
supervision. A receptionist should be on duty during these times as well. - Fundraising Events—serve on planning committee; assist with publicity and public relations; assist in
the kitchen and elsewhere as needed. - Program Leadership—create and lead a program that will provide learning opportunities for the
community. See the MSCC director for further information.

Community center activities offer a variety of hours for volunteer work. Volunteers are asked to have a background check completed at the center’s cost and agree to maintain confidentiality when working at the center.
