Programs/Services

The center is handicapped accessible and open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. (The center may close on some Fridays in July and August at 1:00 pm). Come and visit the Mt. Sterling Community Center and see how it can become “A Place for You”!
The Mt. Sterling Community Center offers a variety of programs and activities for the residents of the Mt. Sterling community. Some are offered as special events, such as “Christmas in the Village”, Women’s Wellness Day, Easter Egg Hunt and July 4th Celebration. Others offered in the summer months include the “Kid’s Gardening Club”, Community Garden and “Water Play Day”—water games, sprinklers and a visit from the village water tank on Thursdays in July and August).

Community Support

Food Pantry

is open on Tuesdays from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and Thursdays from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.  Food pantry recipients must meet the household income guidelines set by the Ohio Job and Family Service Agency.  In addition, recipients must have a Mt. Sterling address or 869 land line exchange.  Proof of residence and a picture ID are required at the first visit.

Alcoholics Anonymous

support group meets on Tuesdays from 8:00 – 9:00 pm.

Fitness/Gym

Open Gym

for High School and adults is held on Mondays from 7:30-9:30 pm.  The gym is open for walking from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm daily.

Zumba Gold

Low-impact exercise with lots of fun movements. Classes offered Mondays from 6-7pm. The class is $5/session paid to the instructor.

Grace to Be Fit (Aerobics)

Aerobics class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 pm (no cost).

TOPS “Take Off Pounds Sensibly”

meet on Tuesdays from 6:00 – 7:00 pm for weight loss support. TOPS Website

Volleyball- Open Gym

Seasonably on Thursdays from 7:30 – 9:00 pm. For adults and high schoolers. All participants must complete appropriate forms to participate (no cost).

Children/Teens

Day Camps

for youth grades K- 5th are held during school spring break and twice in the summer. Camps are held various times of the year, please check our home page and Facebook for details. Some of the past camp titles focused on Ohio History, Middle Ages, Art, Math, Games, International Culture and The Great Outdoors.  Pre-Registration is required.

After School and Tutoring Program

is held from October through April and allows children to do their homework, receive tutoring help if needed, have a snack, play games in the gym, participate in crafts and other educational activities.  The Madison Plains Local Schools assists the center with this program and Pre-Registration is required.

Social/Interest

Sewing Group

Adult Sewing is on Wednesdays from 10:00-3:30. Sewing on Saturdays from 10:00-3:30 for all ages and levels.

Community Garden

The Mt. Sterling Community Garden & Garden Plots project is sponsored for residents of the community and surrounding areaby the Mt. Sterling Community Center.  This project will provide a place where individuals of all ages can come together to work, share experiences and stories, and build relationships that can extend beyond the garden and into the larger community.

Book & Bible Studies

Inspirational Reading Club that meets on the last Tuesday each month at 10:30. No Bible study till March 4th

Christian book library is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

The center accepts and appreciates all financial donations, as well as donations of personal care items and shelf stable food items for the food pantry, sewing and craft items, school supplies and children’s books. Volunteers are the heart of the center as they lead and assist programs and activities. There are always new opportunities to serve as a volunteer—stop by the center for a volunteer application.
