Cans for a Cause 2020 – Thank you!

Each year for the last seven years the MSCC Food Pantry has had a “Cans for a Cause” Food Drive Challenge, and each year you have all contributed generously.  And once again you have more than exceeded our goal, and we could not be more thankful to all of you for everything that you did.

In an uncertain year you went above and beyond to help us give the gift of food to those in our community in need.  And once again we are greatly humbled and blessed by the generous outpouring of love from all of you!  Individuals, businesses and organizations donated the gift of food and the gift of money.  You challenged your co-workers, your customers and your vendors, all to help others.

Your gifts not only helped us provide staples, but also ingredients for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for our friends and neighbors in need.

Thank you so very much for caring so deeply and for helping us to help others in the community in which we live and work.

#GivingTuesday 12.01.2020

What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global movement to celebrate giving back, whether it is your time, your talents or your donations.

We have two days for getting deals – Black Friday and Cyber Monday. On #GivingTuesday, we have an opportunity to give back. Together, people are creating a new ritual for our annual calendar. #GivingTuesday is the opening day of the giving season.

It is an opportunity for people to use their individual power of generosity to remain connected and heal.  2020 has been a challenging year, but there’s still so much to be thankful for.

Every act of generosity counts, and each means even more when we give together. #GivingTuesday includes people of all ethnicities, religions and backgrounds from around the world.

Everyone has something to give. You can give time or expertise, monetary donations large or small, simple acts of kindness, food or clothing.

Do you have a few hours a week? A month?  Can you volunteer your time?  There are many opportunities for donating your time and talents.  Just ask us 🙂

Through the generosity of those donating their time, talents, gifts of food and monetary donations we have been able to keep the Food Pantry and Produce Market open for our friends and neighbors in need.  We have been able to open to small groups for meetings and support.

Thanks to the overwhelming response from you, our community, we have been blessed beyond words.  With your help, we can continue to give, and celebrate community, on #GivingTuesday and beyond and continue our mission as well as look forward to expanding our outreach just as soon as we are able.  Thanks for giving!!!

Mt. Sterling Community Center Updates

The Mt. Sterling Community Center Board of Directors would like for you to meet Megan Witteman.  Megan is the interim Director for the Community Center.  Megan will be working with the current Director, Annie Tomlinson, who will be retiring at the end of November.  The Board of Directors thanks Annie for her years of service and wishes her all the best in her retirement.

Megan Witteman is a lifelong member of the Mt Sterling Community. Megan grew up swimming at the Sterling pool, playing softball behind the center and working at Rapp’s Hardware.  Both of Megan’s grandmothers are or have been volunteers at the Community Center.

Megan is a graduate of Madison Plains High School along with two sisters and her parents Tim and Luana Barker. Megan has a 15 year old daughter who is very active in volleyball and 4-H. Having lived out of Madison County for several years, Megan and her boyfriend Rick of five years, along with his son Trenten and her daughter Morgan are going to be building their new home outside of Mt. Sterling.

Prior to accepting the position as Director at the Community Center, Megan held positions on the Chamber Board and the YMCA Board in Grove City where she recently moved from.  Organizing and attending events, supporting local initiatives, and helping the community were some of the highlights that Megan was responsible for while she held those positions.

The Board of Directors welcomes Megan to our staff.  We look forward to working with her on maintaining our programs and hope to implement some new ideas as well.

Mt. Sterling Fun Run (Virtual)

Support the Mt. Sterling Community Center

Register and receive a beautiful 2020 T-shirt and gifts from our corporate sponsors! Register for the first ever (and hopefully last) “Virtual” Sterling Fun Run.

While a lot of our programs and activities have been canceled for the time being due to COVID-19…

our food pantry and produce market has been open, and our volunteers have been working hard to feed our friends and neighbors in need.  Kids Food Friday provided extra items to help over the weekends, and backpacks complete with school supplies are being provided to local youth.

The Sterling Fun Run, (originally planned for Saturday, October 3, 2020) is an annual event to benefit the programs and activities of the Mt. Sterling Community Center.

This year, in the best interest of our volunteers and participants, the 5K Run/Walk or 1-Mile Fun Walk will be a virtual event.  While we will miss you, we certainly hope that you will join in on the fun and encourage your friends and family to join in or support your walk/run by making contributions to the Center to support your run/walk.

The “Virtual Fun Run” can take place at a time and place that is best for.  You pick your date, your route and your team!!!  And make sure to send us some photos of you and/or your team to share on our social media pages.

To enroll, and receive a beautiful Fun Run T-Shirt and goodie bag with items from some of our corporate sponsors before Oct. 3, log on to Race Entry at:

or print and return the entry form located below along with your entry fee, on or before noon on Friday, September 11, 2020.

With almost all of our fundraisers canceled this year, we sincerely thank you for helping us to help others in our community with the gift of food, and hope to see you at the Center next year for the 2021 Sterling Fun Run!
